PALM BEACH, Fla. – A dash of star power dropped by the “Time is of the Essence” annual luncheon presented by H.O.W., Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper.

Television personality and author Dr. Mehmet Oz made a surprise appearance and greeted the sold-out crowd at the Flagler Museum as he joined his wife, Lisa Oz, a speaker at the program.

Lisa Oz, also an author, discussed her personal relationships, the importance of life balance and the effects of positive thinking.

The luncheon’s featured speaker was Dr. Lee P. Shulman, chief of clinical genetics at Northwestern University, who discussed the latest advances in ovarian cancer. He was introduced by Dr. Robert Knapp, a director of H.O.W. and co-inventor of CA-125, the test used to detect ovarian cancer.

Shelley Golden, co-founder of See Eyewear and ovarian cancer survivor, also spoke during the program.

Andrea Stark and Judy Snyder hosted the luncheon Jan. 27, 2014. Guests included Lori Gendelman, Eddy Taylor, Jack and Carolyn Liggett, Betsy Matthews, Fern Fodiman, Cobey Rapaport and Robert Toll.

H.O.W., a program of the Palm Healthcare Foundation, raises funds for ovarian cancer research, presents free educational programs, offers financial assistance to women in need and provides scholarships to medical students interested in gynecologic oncology.

H.O.W. was founded by the late Jacquie Liggett.
