Jay Leno to Headline First UM Gala in Palm Beach

PALM BEACH, FL – The University of Miami’s Department of Neurology is making a splash for its inaugural gala in Palm Beach as it welcomes comedian Jay Leno as its featured entertainment.

The “Tonight Show” host will be at The Breakers on Feb. 25, 2012, for UM’s program, “Solving the Neurological Puzzle.” The gala marks the department’s 50th anniversary.

Janet Levy and Cindy Feltenstein (pictured right) will chair the event.

The gala includes a champagne reception, cocktails, dinner and the band “Hot Property.” There will also be a live auction, which will include items such as tickets to the Masters Golf Tournament and the U.S. Open tennis finals, as well as tickets to the Final Four college men’s basketball championship and VIP tickets to the “Tonight Show.”

The neurology department conducts research and advanced treatment and prevention of stroke, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s and cognitive disorders. It has a resident training program at JFK Medical Center in Atlantis and an outpatient clinic on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

The department is one of only two certified stroke centers in Florida, and conducts clinical trials for all new medications, genome research and new therapies working toward a cure for complex neurological disorders.

Proceeds from the gala will go toward continuing research and comprehensive neuro-critical care and neural-interventional programs in Palm Beach County as well as in Miami.

Tickets are $500 and $1,000. For more details, call (561) 655-2111 or visit www.umgala.org.
